The last few weeks we have been talking about ways we can get a little bit of funding to start advertising and selling merchandise. We had a few good ideas, but the best one that we’ve run across is a website called Kickstarter.com. If you’ve never heard of Kickstarter you need to definitely go check it out. It’s a website for people who have ideas that they want to start, but don’t necessarily have the money to start it. The whole premise of the site is to set a monetary goal and timeframe for whatever you want to raise money for and then you publicize it for people to donate. If you’re goal is $15,000 and you set a goal of a month to raise that money, you have to have all of that money raised by then or Kickstarter gets to keep it. I think that’s fair since they have to pay a lot of money to keep their company running as well. But if you do raise your goal… Or even over that you get to keep all of it.

I just think that this is one of the best ideas I have ever heard of and I believe that Original Rebel will be starting a Kickstarter campaign pretty soon. I just want to keep everyone on the lookout for it, because when it hits you will be hit. You stay on your toes and so will we.

People spend so much money to make themselves look good for the super bowl and have the best commercial. Maybe it’s not how much money you throw at things, but it’s about the quality and creativity that’s put into it. You don’t have to have a butt ton of money to be the best. You just simply have to do it.

Life will always give you multiple choices but 99% of the time you can only pick one.  Mutual funds could be the exception, but I think you catch my drift.  Do you want to go right or left?  Decaf or no?  Drive or walk?  Coke or Pepsi?  Non-profit or For-profit?  Life is full of decisions, and sometimes we just sit and stare at them.  We waste all of our time scared to take the jump, so we spend ten years analyzing the jump.  Should I jump feet first or dive?  Should I jump to the right or to the left?  Yes it’s important to think about your decisions but sometime you have to actually make a decision and go for it.

The more you sit around and become intimidated by the decisions you have to make, the less likely you will do something.  I’m encouraging you to finally make that decision, take that jump, and do something.  More than likely, something good will come out of it.

This might be taken for granted, but reading the news is so important when it comes to being informed on the things going on around us.  I bet some people didn’t know Blake Griffin had one of the best dunks ever last night, the Everglades have a python problem, or that Jones, Scherzinger, and Abdul were booted from the X-Factor cast.  These may not be important to everyone, but it’s information that is available but looked over.  Things that are important that we may miss:

• Florida GOP Primaries are today
• Syria is experiencing a huge internal war
• France’s Armenia genocide law put on hold

You might say these do not affect you, but they do affect people all around the nation and the world.  If people are struggling, isn’t it our responsibility to reach out and help?  Shouldn’t we be a voice for these people?  How are we supposed to stand in the gap for people if we don’t know what they are going through?  News may be more important than you think.

Journaling is one of the most important things you could do as a leader or even as a person.  It’s a way to jot down your ideas or thoughts or maybe just the junk that you went through that day.  When I come up with a million dollar idea, I journal it.  When I come across a profound thought, I journal it.  When I just had a crappy day and need to vent, I journal it and get it off my chest.  I look back at journals I wrote in highschool, and it’s some pretty crazy stuff.  I was in a serious car accident in high school, and I have the journal I wrote from that night.  Call me nostalgic, but I think it’s pretty cool. 

You can learn a lot from your past, might as well write it down.  All great leaders do, and so does everyone else.

If you can find just one good friend who meets these qualifications you are a lucky person.  You will notice the change in your own life and how much happier and just all around better of a person you turn into.  You will start to adopt the traits of these people, and honestly just become a better person.  I’m not saying you suck and need to be better, but I don’t know anyone who does not want to be a better person.  If you ask me, you should always strive to be better.  Not make more money or possess more things, but to strive to perfect positive character traits.

Yesterday I took a trip to Nashville, TN to drop one of my friends off at the airport. To tell you the truth I’ve never been to Nashville before. It’s not because I think the city is uninteresting or anything, it’s just because I’ve never been given the opportunity to go. So when I was given the opportunity… I jumped on it. I guess I could have gone by myself if I wanted to, but who wants to do that when you can go with friends? It was a 6 hour round trip from Cleveland, TN to Nashville, TN. You know when you take trips to places that you’ve never been to or decide to take a new route to a destination, you are more keen to notice things? This was me the entire time.

I love seeing new things and experiencing things that I’ve never done before. I’m in the car checking out all of the new scenery on I-24 and all of the people that we are passing. I’m definitely a people watcher. I think it’s really fun to pull up beside people and stare at them and things like that because they start getting really nervous… Maybe throwing in a weird face every now and again. You know, It just makes the time go by a little faster. As we’re traveling down the interstate we spot the sketchiest van in all of Tennessee driving right in front of us. All of this spray paint telling you to give this guy a call and follow him on Tweeter and Facebook. Obviously he had no clue how to use Twitter because he called it “Tweeter”. Best of all he looked just like Santa Claus.

We drove by and we were laughing really hard at this point. I decided to take one more glance behind me to save a mental picture of this guy and his van. When I did I saw the word “Outlaw” painted above his front windshield. I immediately thought “Who does this guy think he is?” I thought it would be cool to pull out my phone and take a real picture instead of a mental one to save the memory. I don’t know why I would ever want to save a memory of “Santa the Outlaw” but I did. And that’s about all I got about that story.

Well that was all I got until I started looking at the picture over and over again. Why would that guy want you to know that he was an outlaw? When I think of an outlaw I think of a criminal. Maybe the guy wanted to let the cops know that he was a criminal? Maybe not. Then it hit me… He was proud of whatever he thought he was. Nobody goes around with a label like that pinned to them unless they are proud of it. Maybe that’s what he was passionate about… Being an outlaw.

Why can’t we show everyone what we’re passionate about? Be forward with it. I think sometimes we get scared of what people will think about us or what category that we will be put into. I’m sure that when that guy goes and parks his car places he makes other people slightly nervous. I’m not saying we should go make people nervous, but we should let people know what we care about. I care about people, graphic design, relationships, social justice and so on… so I let people know that. If I didn’t, Original Rebel would be nonexistent. I just want to say all of this to say let people know who you are. What makes you tick. What you’re passionate about. That’s what makes you… you. People appreciate that.
